Our Monthly Verse to reflect on...
Gen 1:1
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
(KJV)
Reflections from the Pastor
The word "God" in our verse is plural in the Hebrew... meaning 3 (three)... the Father...The Son...and the Holy Ghost!
Sermon for March
The Battle is the Lord’s
1 Sam 17:47-49
47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hands.
48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.
1. Recognize Enemy… 1 Peter 5:8...the Philistine arose
1 Pet 5:8-9
8 Be sober,(calm and collected in spirit) be vigilant; (ready for conflict) because your adversary (lawful opponent) the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, (walking to gain opportunity) seeking (seeking as a craving) whom he may devour:9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. (we are not alone in the fight)
(KJV)
2. Willingness to stand… Eph 6:10-13...David hasted
Eph 6:10-13
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, (purpose to gain extra strength from God) and in the power (this is ‘kratos’…or dominion…) of his might. (I.e. allow Him control)
11 Put on (volitional) the whole armour of God, (no partial armor) that ye may be able to stand against the wiles (methodeia…methods) of the devil.12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore (or since we face these things…) take unto (purpose) you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, (we will face personal ’evil’ days) and having done all, to stand.
3. Trust God… Prov 3:5...ran toward
Prov 3:5-7
5 Trust (reckless) in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.6 In all thy ways acknowledge (await His approval) him, and he shall direct thy paths. (well trodden road)
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
4. Be Ready… Rom 13:11...put his hand in his bag
Rom 13:11-12
11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation (soul salvation and heavenly salvation) nearer than when we believed.12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: (upon us) let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. (be real!)
5. Be Equipped… Eph 6:12-20...took thence a stone
Eph 6:14-18
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation (ready to witness) of the gospel of peace;16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, (the key to strength) wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
(KJV)
6. Deliver attack… 2 Cor 10:3-6...slang it
2 Cor 10:3-6
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) (ATTACK!!)
5 Casting down imaginations, (logismos…logic!) and every high thing (ego attitude) that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity (as a prisoner of war) every thought (purpose and perception) to the obedience of Christ;6 And having in a readiness (ready at hand, prepared) to revenge (punish) all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
7. Be on target… Rom 6:6...smote the Philistine
Rom 6:6-7
6 Knowing this, that our old man (old ways) is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. (if you are dead you ARE free)
8. Be Sure… 1 Cor 9:27...stone sunk into his forehead
1 Cor 9:24-27
24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. (have a goal for your ministry)
25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate (self controlled) in all things. Now they (the world) do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. (worthless…used of metals tested and fail)
9. Be Victorious… 1 Thess 5:16...fell upon his face
1Thes 5:16-24
16 Rejoice evermore. (Oh for JOY!)
17 Pray without ceasing. (don’t quit praying!)
18 In every thing (situation) give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.19 Quench not the Spirit.(don’t throw water on the fire!)
20 Despise not prophesyings. (preaching’s)
21 Prove (test) all things; hold fast that which is good.22 Abstain from all appearance (Outward show) of evil.23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body
(notice the progression?) be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. (We can’t…God can!)
Conclusion: Rom 8:35-39 and Phil 4:13 (I…Can do…all things…through Christ…who strengtheneth me.)
Rom 8:35-39
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
